Rehabilitation

Pet Rehabilitation Treatments in Union & Westfield, NJ

At Westfield Veterinary Group, our goal is to help your pet live their best life possible. When mobility is impacted by an illness or injury, their overall quality of life is impacted, too. That’s why we offer recommendations to help pets reclaim their mobility and relieve any discomfort or pain.

Which Pets Benefit from Rehabilitation?

Pet rehabilitation helps with a number of conditions including:

  • Arthritis
  • Chronic pain
  • Post-op recovery from orthopedic surgery
  • Obesity
  • Neurologic conditions
  • Old age aches and pains
  • And more

Physical Therapy Services

Physical therapy for cats and dogs is similar to human physical therapy.

Our services include:

  • Range of motion and stretching exercises. These exercises help to strengthen the muscles being targeted, improve flexibility, and minimize scar tissue formation after an injury or surgery.
  • Thermotherapy. The use of heat (thermotherapy) and cold (cryotherapy) helps to reduce muscle inflammation, control spasms, increase circulation, and relieve pain.
  • Electrical stimulation. Using advanced, completely safe equipment, we generate a low-level electrical current that helps increase muscle strength and tone, reduce pain, and ease muscle spasms.
  • Weight management. Overweight pets are at risk for a wide range of health problems. With our weight management program designed for your pet, we’ll help them lose weight in a healthy, sustainable way.

Laser Therapy for Dogs & Cats

Laser therapy for dogs and cats involves the use of a handheld therapeutic laser that our trained technicians hold over your pet’s problem area. The laser light emitted by the device penetrates deep into the tissue and reduces pain and inflammation while also increasing circulation to speed healing.

We use laser therapy to treat:

  • Joint injuries
  • Wounds
  • Fractures
  • Neurologic conditions
  • Skin conditions
  • Chronic pain
